If the summer transfer rumour mill is to be believed, largely forgotten Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie seems likely to be back in the Eredivisie next season, lining up for AZ Alkmaar.

Having spent the last two years away from St Mary’s Stadium with season long loan spells at Club Brugge and former club Feyenoord, with some loose departure links surrounding the 27-year-old, the speculation spiked recently when it came to the Dutch sides interest in the player.

Dutch Side To Offer Forgotten Southampton Man A Way Out

Over the weekend, there were firm quotes from both Sporting Director Max Huiberts and incoming head coach Arne Slot about their interest in Clasie and they confirmed that contact had been made and the player was keen, now all that needed to be done was to strike a deal with Southampton directly.

It remains to be seen whether that comes as a nominal fee for a permanent deal or a loan arrangement with a fee given he only has 12 months left on his contract, but it seems likely some kind of deal will be done even if it rumbles on for a bit.

Reacting to the news on social media, most fans clearly knew a parting of the ways was in the best interests of all now. Some deals just don’t work out but sadly we’ve had too many of them in a short space of time.
