Burnley ended last season with Nick Pope firmly established between the sticks but owing to him picking up an injury this pre-season they have been linked with a potential loan for Southampton’s former England man Fraser Forster.

Pope replaced fellow England keeper Tom Heaton last season as he went down with injury, but the stopper has now dislocated his shoulder and Sean Dyche is obviously on the lookout for cover as it’s expected he could miss the next six months of the new campaign.

The original report seems to stem from the Sun so make of it what you will given they already have Heaton on their books who would be the expected Number 1 again in my eyes. Forster as a name you wouldn’t bring in as a Number 2 even allowing for the season he had in 2017/18 as his issue was confidence, not a lack of talent.

The rest of the report just leans on what we already know at St Mary’s when it comes to Alex McCarthy and the capture of Angus Gunn.

Fans continue to be torn on the previous big man after 2017/18 and history appears to get a little blurred with nostalgia as Forster’s new top-flight record didn’t come last season.

But football will do that to you.
