The deal taking Southampton defender Matt Targett to Aston Villa was completed today, according to https://www.avfc.co.uk/

The deal is believed to be an initial £11million, with the fee possibly raising to £17million with add-ons.

The 23-year-old made 16 Premier League appearances last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists. He made 63 appearances in total for the club since making his debut five years ago.

Earlier in the month, The Daily Mail reported, Ryan Bertrand could be leaving the club amidst interest from Inter and Atletico Madrid. It was believed Targett would then be given more opportunities in the first-team, however, those plans appear to have changed.

Targett is a product of the Saints academy, and supporters do not usually like waving goodbye to ‘one of their own.’

However, judging by fans reactions on Twitter, it is not the case on this occasion. The supporters see the deal as good business.

It would seem fans are happy about selling the player, especially at that price and took to Twitter to share their reactions to the news…
