New goalkeeper Fraser Forster has said that the opportunity available to him at Southampton was too good to turn down even though he loved his time at Celtic.

Having joined us the other day for a reported £10million the 26 year old has signed a four year deal and he explained to saintsfc.

‘I just felt it was a fantastic opportunity. Southampton is a top club and they’re playing Premier League football every season and I thought it was an opportunity too good to miss. I felt now is the time for something new, a new challenge and to play in the Premier League and to be at a club like Southampton is something special.’

Forster admits that this summer is a time of transition for the club given the departures we have seen but he knows there are still plenty of good players left at the club and the chance to work under a manager like Ronald Koeman as we go into a new stage of our history was a really big pull for him.

It’s also being reported today that Southampton have agreed a fee for Steaua Bucharest centre half Florin Gardos and he has today undergone a medical at the club. It’s said the 25 year old will be a direct replacement for Dejan Lovren.
