With Southampton trimming the first team group a little more this week with the most recent departure of centre-half Wesley Hoedt, fans reacted positively to the news on social media on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old was one of the first names on the teamsheet for former manager Mark Hughes, but with Ralph Hasenhuttl coming in as his replacement, Hoedt quickly found himself frozen out of the group – and many would say justified given improvements in the backline and our results across the last month.

Heading to Celta Vigo on a loan spell until the end of the season, he joins up with another outcast, Sofiane Boufal, and his loan club do have a buy option on the deal and many fans will be wishing him the best of success to ensure they use that option as we at least make some money back on the reported £15million we paid for his services back into the summer of 2017.

With 45 appearances in total, whether it’s fair or not that he carries the can for form earlier in the season, fans were always mixed on his performances for us and that didn’t stop on his departure.
