With a boost from our EFL Cup second round victory over Brighton and Hove Albion in midweek, Southampton head into this Saturday Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Manager Mark Hughes takes the group to Selhurst Park to face Roy Hodgson’s side and with recent history tipping the win ratio balance clearly in our favour, we’ll be looking to continue that and improve our 17th place league standing by picking up the first three points and win of the current 2018/19 campaign.

With only a point on the board from a draw with Burnley on the opening day of the campaign, and then back to back losses to Everton and Leicester City, the Cup boost needs to go into league form now – even if the best we can do is end the losing streak and take a point.

With Charlie Austin getting off the mark against Brighton, I expect he’ll lead the line with Danny Ings as we go in search of the win but even though midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is now available for selection again following his red card – the nature of the card leaves me thinking Hughes will start him from the bench at best.

McCarthy, Bertrand, Hoedt, Vestergaard, Soares, Redmond, Romeu, Lemina, Elyounoussi, Austin, Ings.
