“Great news for all” – Saints legend hails club for securing future of key asset

|

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier was delighted with the club after manager Ralph Hasenhuttl extended his contract until 2024.

The club made an official statement on their website that the Austrian tactician will be stretching his stay at St Mary’s, following an incredible turnaround of our fortunes since our heavy defeat to Leicester City in October.

Hasenhuttl has been in charge since 2018, following the dismissal of Mark Hughes back and has accumulated a points-per-game average of 1.25 from 60 matches in charge, as per TransferMarkt.

Le Tissier was delighted with the announcement and believes that Hasenhuttl has been rewarded for his hard work and commitment to our cause.

Will Hasenhuttl turn Southampton's fortunes around?

Yes

No

No

“Certainly it is [a remarkable comeback]. The club are delighted that Ralph has signed, and it’s great news for all Southampton fans,’ Le Tissier told the Football Show on Sky Sports (quoted by the Daily Mail).

“I know for a fact that they’ve done a lot of work during lockdown on how to take the club forward.

“It was a bit disorganised when Ralph came in, but he’s really impressed the board and they stuck by him despite the freak result against Leicester.”

Le Tissier added that credit has to go towards his mental strength as to one of the reasons why he has done so well and believes it would have been easy for the board to sack him after the Foxes loss.

Hasenhuttl’s men are currently seven points clear of the relegation zone with nine matches remaining in 14th place, with the likes of West Ham United, Watford and Bournemouth all snaking into the drop.

Le Tissier is spot on and we are lucky to have someone with such terrific grit and determination about the way he goes about his work.

Any manager could have easily thrown in the towel following that horrendous night in October. However, he refused to give up, has turned the fortunes of the club around and has been repaid for his efforts. I tip my hat to you, Mr Hasenhuttl.
