The club announced today on their official website that director of football operations, Ross Wilson, has left Southampton to take up a new job across the northern border in Scotland with Rangers.
Despite Wilson’s important role at the club, his departure has been met with most fans celebrating on social media in large part to how bad Southampton’s transfer business since his appointment has been.
Southampton have signed the likes of Guido Carillo, Wesley Hoedt and Mario Lemina in recent years, three players who all let the club this summer after extremely underwhelming periods on the south coast with the Saints.
Here’s what some Southampton fans had to say about Wilson leaving the club…
Great news. How many millions have we got out on loan now due to his pi55 poor recruitment? Hoedt, Carrillo, Mo, Forster, Lemina…

It all depends on who we get in as a replacement. Hopefully this is a fresh start for us.

Up the road Ross

Surprised he still there. Did well early on, as did Les Reed, but most recent signings were absolutely shocking and at ridiculous transfer fees. Carillo, Elyanoussi, Hoedt, Caceres, Juanmi, Gardos, Clasie, and I reluctantly include Lemina.

Some Saints supporters were happy to see the director of football operations depart…
The only surprise is that he didn’t get sacked when Reed got the boot.

Leaving us with the worst transfer mess in recent decades, if not ever.

The Daily Southern Echo report that the club are keen on appointing a player trading expert to replace Wilson.
