It’s been reported that Guly Do Prado is likely to leave St Mary’s in the summer as he is yet to open negotiations on a new deal.

The 32 year old Brazilian is out of contract in the summer and if he does leave, having joined us back in August 2010, he will have completed seasons with us and as things stand, completed 79 starts for the club, with a further 35 appearances from the bench, scoring 23 goals across all competitions. He’ll no doubt be hoping to add to that before the end of the season though, starting with today’s game against Sunderland.

Do Prado certainly has many good memories from the good, playing his part under Nigel Adkins as we gained promotions through to the Premier League and although there is only one quote doing the rounds in all the press reports, it appears that negotiations on a new contract haven’t begun, and although he hasn’t been told his deal won’t be renewed, it’s looking increasingly likely that he will move on.

‘I am going to miss Southampton if I have to go. I would be sad to go.’

If this is true and decisions are already being tentatively made about our squad make up for 2014-15, then one thing is does point to is that manager Mauricio Pochettino – contrary to press speculation and doom-mongering – may not be leaving in the summer either.
