Hasenhuttl Names Southampton’s Problem In Liverpool Defeat – But There Are Positives

|

Southampton opened up the 2019/20 Premier League campaign last weekend with a very disappointing defeat to Burnley, and although facing Liverpool earlier today was hardly a great fixture to follow that, it was one where our performance could erase some of that frustration.

Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl was certainly looking for more than what we showed in the final 30 minutes last time out, and I think, most will accept that he would’ve seen just that.

We fell behind in first half stoppage time as former player Sadio Mane opened the scoring, and Liverpool added a second with 19 minutes remaining. Our heads didn’t drop though and Danny Ings did net a consolation in the 83rd minute even if there was a huge stroke of luck it in. But we had tested them across the match, and Che Adams arguably should’ve scored.

Perform like that against others in the league, and take our chances, and it should be a far more comfortable season compared to 2018/19.

Speaking to saintsfc following the full time whistle, our Austrian gaffer said of our efforts on the day.
