New manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has given a small insight into what he’s been doing with the Southampton first team this week in training as we go into Sunday’s clash with Arsenal at St Mary’s Stadium.

With the focus rightly on improving our performances, consistency in front of goal and by default, our Premier League position, fans will be hoping to see further tweaks in our general levels and style of play when we take to the pitch tomorrow.

For Hasenhuttl’s part, he told Sky Sports in his pre-game press conference ahead of the tie that it wasn’t just the fit and healthy players that had been worked on, those out injured had also been given tasks to complete so when they do return to contention, they are up to speed on his game plan and desires.

Using former England man Ryan Bertrand as an example, he explained.

“It went well and I wrote to him yesterday wishing him all the best. We sent him all the training session videos that we made this week so that he can imagine what will change now in his position or what we are asking from him in the future.”

I doubt this is actually that unique in the game in fairness, but it’s another tiny piece of the puzzle that I imagine will please a lot of fans purely because it demonstrates there is a clear plan in place now from the management staff.

Hasenhuttl also confirmed that earlier in the week, he cancelled a planned day off on Monday to get extra hours with the team to get his message over and that will definitely go over well as you’re supposed to earn days off.
