Hasenhuttl Won’t Rule Out Raid On Former Club As Speculation Grows

|

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has refused to be drawn on speculation linking Southampton with a move for RB Leipzig striker Jean-Kevin Augustin in the remaining weeks of the January transfer window.

With the Austrian gaffer admitting previously that he was open to adding one or two players this month, despite his focus being on shrinking the group slightly, it probably wasn’t going to be long before he was linked with a raid on his former club.

Having managed 21-year-old Augustin previously in the Bundesliga, he’s well aware of his qualities and his development potential and we have been linked with him this week according to Sky Sports.

With the player appearing on the rumour mill, the gaffer didn’t give much away in his answers to the questions.

“It’s nice that you know we are linked with this guy! I don’t want to explain if it is true or not. I know Jean-Kevin very well. I think every player I know well is linked with us. He has got qualities, he is quick, can score and is used to the high-pressing methods we use, so that would help him if he would be here. But he isn’t and I don’t want to discuss any players that are linked with us. If there is a player who has signed, we will tell you.”

In fairness, I think you can read that both ways when it comes to us having a possible interest in him, I’m just slightly amazed that there haven’t been more links with his previous side so far this month.

A fortnight or so to go and we’ll know if he did have his eye on someone.
