With manager Ralph Hasenhuttl confirming this week that Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina was expected to move on before the closure of the European window at the end of the month given the “options” he has available to him, our Austrian gaffer also gave an update on former England international goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Having significantly fallen down the pecking order, and rarely been seen in a first team context for a good period of time, links with Celtic have been pretty regular over the summer and with speculation suggesting that he would be travelling back to his former club today for a medical, whilst Hasenhuttl wouldn’t be overly drawn on that speculation, he admitted that our intention remained that he moved on if something could be arranged before September’s deadline.

Speaking to Sky Sports when questioned about the medical, Hasenhuttl explained.

“It can be that of the guys is leaving us in the last 10 days of the transfer period, and maybe he is also one guy that can make another step. We have a few guys who are still on the transfer list and try to maybe find another option. You know that we have four goalkeepers at the moment, so we have the chance to give one or the other the chance to play somewhere else, and maybe Fraser is the one, yeah.”

Best for all involved really, Forster certainly suffered as our confidence went but he hasn’t become a bad keeper overnight and he needs to get himself back up and running and a fresh start is his best chance of achieving that.

Given how strong the Celtic speculation is, there could well be confirmation this evening – in which case I’ll have to quickly edit this!

And true to form, about six odd minutes ago his switch was confirmed.
