How Can We Protect Our Own?

Chester City were yesterday booted out of the Blue Square Conference. The cash strapped club had failed to play a game due to a lsck of funds leading to no police cover being available.Players were also not paid on time.
Southend United players have still not been paid this year. Though, on last nights showing they are still giving their all. Only losing to Charlton with a last minute injury time goal killing of the 10 man Southend resistance.
Bournemouth were yesterday issued with a winding up petition by HMRC. They are confident of escaping safely from this petition though. This is not their first such experience.
Cardiff City is another club that has severe money problems. They have been forced to sell off some of their land.
Crystal palace are also in deep trouble which to be fair enabled us to get Fonte. They could even lose their manager this weekend as QPR are in the hunt for him. Warnock has said though, that he will only leave Palace if an agreed price is paid in compensation.
West Ham United have been in the news recently as they are not yet in the clear. Their new owners have gone public saying that the club owes over £100m and are trying to cut costs with some haste. They should remain safe for as long as they can stay in the top league thus receiving the TV money that goes with that.
Manchester United as everyone knows owe approximately £800m. This to me seems a ludicrous amount of debt and is not easily servicable.
Portsmouth yesterday went into administration. History of the worst kind being made as they have become the first Premier League club to do that. Yes it could have been avoided with a bit of common sense prevailing but the dreams of all fans is that of winning trophies. Seeing their heroes climb the steps at Wembley. Seeing their captain hold aloft the FA Cup. The Premier League trophy being an even bigger prize.
The lure of the big prize has led to the death throes of many clubs. What can we do to ensure the game survives? How can we change the structure of the game to preserve it? What rules will need to be altered or replaced for the continuing life of the game?
I firmly believe that the tv money could be shared a lot more evenly. I also believe that new rules need to be put into place capping the amount each club can spend on players etc.
Also I believe that the January transfer window should have removed the need for the cup tied players ruling. Why should a player be cup tied because he played in that competition for another club? He doesn’t get barred from playing a league game having played in the same league for a different team. So explain to me the difference. To me the rule could and should be used from perhaps the end of March. This single move can help smaller clubs with revenue worries as they can sell a player if necessary for longer.
So come on people let us decide on what is needed because the powers that be can’t do it.
