With Southampton getting back to winning ways on Saturday as we took victory over Leicester City, young fullback Yann Valery took a fair few headlines himself following his red card for two bookable offences.
The 19-year-old Frenchman was making his ninth senior appearance for the club in the game, and it was his seventh Premier League start since being promoted up from our youth ranks, but having picked up two yellows in the match, it seems most fans are looking at the positives in terms of his development and how he’ll learn from it.
Being reduced to ten men obviously made the second half trickier for us, but with the two goal cushion we held on for all three points anyway and I imagine taking the victory regardless did play into fans not overly being critical of him as it didn’t cost us.
Was causing them trouble before he was sent off. He is very raw and needs to improve but I quite like him.

Red card will do him good in the long run, will learn from the mistake. It does highlight the lack of leadership we have though, could tell it was going to happen 10 mins before and no one made a attempt to calm him down.

Massively hyped up by saints fans, can’t see what he offers

That was the simple solution but subbing a young lad mid way thru half could destroy his confidence, just have to accept he was stupid & hope he learns from .. he’s lost his place for next game

Bit of a worry as he lost the plot v Cardiff 1st half as well and had to be taken off at HT. He’s only a nipper though so they should be able to work on it ????

I wouldn’t say he lost his head, he wasn’t angry at all.. just took one for the team doing a pull back, forgetting he’d been booked previous! I’ve no issues with him, young lad and bags of talent, huge learning curve.

The discipline side of the game he needs to quickly work on as regardless of whether fans feel it was a rush of blood or he took one for the team and forgot he was already on a yellow, with fans remembering the Cardiff match as well, we have to be careful it doesn’t cost us in the future.
