With Southampton winless in the last five in the Premier League, we go into this weekend’s clash with Bournemouth in desperate need of a victory.

Following FA Cup exit to Chelsea in our last match, we continue to sit in 18th place in the Premier League table and we are four points shy of Swansea City who occupy the last safety spot.

With only four games left in the season of 2017/18, it’s imperative that Southampton pick up the win and quickly to close that gap. With games to follow against Everton, Swansea and Manchester City, we need to make that Swansea match count and do all we can take Pep Guardiola’s side out of the equation when it comes to safety.

Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media this week to preview the game, Hughes admitted it was the proverbial six-pointer and he knew we had to come out with nothing less than the win.

The pleasing comment for the fans came in the fact that he said he wanted the shackles to be off and he just wanted to see the side take risks as we face Eddie Howe’s side. With an ‘all or nothing’ attitude, it could well see the best of us once more.

“In the games that we have left, we’re going to have to really push and try to turn games into winning situations. We need to go for it. It’s going to be a huge game for everybody connected to the club, and everybody needs to pull together and get us over the line. We’ll put a huge effort in. I’ve been pleased with the amount of effort they’ve put in, but we need winning situations and that’s what we’ll be looking for.”

With goalscoring issues all season long, whatever happens, if the side go at our opponents and give their all now it’ll go a long way to giving the crowd something to really cheer about and make some apologies in the process.

With the season we’ve had, some rightly were reticent when it came to saying the right things but failing to put that into practice during games themselves. Hopefully this weekend we say the right things on the pitch whilst we can still do something about and then the interviews will handle themselves.
