Southampton left-back Matt Targett is the latest doubt for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl as he gears up for the next Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at the end of January.

With the weekend off for FA Cup fourth round action, that could well play in our favour when it comes to Targett who was substituted in the 35th minute of our victory over Everton, and it could see us boosted with returns for Mario Lemina and Ryan Bertrand as well given PhysioRoom.com’s injury table lists them as only being a week away from a return.

Michael Obafemi remains out for an expected month with his hamstring problem.

As for 23-year-old Targett, his problem still needs fully assessing and journalist Ben Dinnery took to social media to explain.

Hopefully, the knee injury won’t prove to be too serious here, and the short break in the fixture list, as said, could be an advantage in getting the youngster back on the training pitch, or seeing him replaced by Bertrand.

Cotton wool time really given the turn in form under Hasenhuttl as we don’t need injuries getting in the way of our progress.
