Southampton fans will be well aware of Fulham’s interest in Academy graduate Matt Targett.
The 22-year-old youth prospect has already begun building his name at St Mary’s as he has 37 starting appearances to his name and a further five showings from the bench and plenty of fans see him as our future down the left-hand side of defence.
In 2017/18 he spent the second half of the campaign out with Fulham for more regular game time, and his spell with them saw 20 starts with one substitute showing, and he returned one goal as they progressed through to the Championship Play-Off final. At Wembley they took victory over Aston Villa to return to the Premier League and we will meet them in 2018/19.
Targett impressed as it’s long been known they wanted him back this summer on a permanent deal and we have already rejected a reported £5million bid. The Mirror’s daily ticker this week has them coming back with a second and improved offer, suggested to be in the region of £8million.
Undoubtedly it’s far closer to our valuation of the player, but I’d still be looking for more based on his potential.
Is that for a season loan

I'm fine with letting him go as I have faith in McQueen

What leg do they want.

They can jog on

In today's climate Targett's worth £12-15m easy. Still young, star performer in a promoted Championship team – hope we hold onto him though not sure we can offer regular football if Bertie stays #saintsfc https://t.co/Nzw2TGuzQ9

Think Bertrand would be a v good LCB in much the same way that Walker is for England. Targett very good option at LWB but not convinced Prowsey would be good at RWB – I'd prefer to give a chance to Reed or Valery
