With Gareth Southgate’s England squad being decimated in midfield with curious choices Fabian Delph and Ruben Loftus-Cheek being forced to announce their withdrawal with injuries, Southampton’s in form starlet James Ward-Prowse has finally been given a recall.

With Southgate maintaining selections were on merit, the England gaffer looked a little bit daft when he overlooked JWP’s game time and goal return this season when compared to the two referenced above, but earlier this morning it was confirmed that the 24-year-old had now been rightly drafted into the squad for the March international break 2020 European Championship qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro.

The recall has been a long time coming given JWP’s form and our own struggles in the Premier League, and we’ll have to see if he builds on his solitary cap gained back in March 2017 when he was a substitute in the friendly clash against Germany.

Let’s hope he seizes his chance and the confidence boost continues to pay dividends for us in the remainder of 2018/19.
