Many Southampton fans have been fighting the corner of former fan favourite James Beattie.
If you have missed it, the club’s official Twitter account has been giving the vote to the fanbase each day as to who should be in the Fantasy Saint’s XI.
Wednesday was the turn of the strikers, with Kevin Keegan, Alan Shearer, Marian Pahars and James Beattie to choose from.
Who deserves the place more?
Kevin Keegan
James Beattie
There is no doubting Beattie’s ability, and his time with us demonstrates that. He scored 71 goals and provided three assists in 215 appearances for the Saints. This rewarded him with a chance to play for England and won five caps for the senior side.
Because of this, supporters pleaded for Beattie to win the poll and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that it simply “has to be”, while another believed that he should come away with the most votes “all day long”.
