With the speculation over the weekend linking Southampton transfer favourites Liverpool with a possible move for goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, I should’ve guessed it would kick start the inevitable ‘Exodus’ routine given previous dealings between the club, and now Matt Targett is being linked with the Anfield outfit.
It was claimed on Monday that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was keen on our 23-year-old Academy graduate and that they had now made a firm enquiry with the player already heavily linked once again with Aston Villa.
The speculation hinges on Klopp wanting a proper back up to Andy Robertson with James Milner now their only alternative, but with game time believed to be an issue for Targett, I’m not sure why he’d welcome this move other than the obvious financial rewards.
I’m not so sure I can see anything coming of this one to be honest, as Targett seems to have his head screwed on better than that in my humble.
Other reports are also linking him with Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester City.
