Southampton head to Dean Court this weekend to face off against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side, and it’s fair to say that a number within the fanbase aren’t that confident of getting a positive result given our own form so far in the season of 2018/19.

With a lull in Premier League action owing to the October international break, Saints head into the game sat in 16th place in the table with only one victory to our name in eight matches. Current form has us on the back of a three-game losing run on top of that.

Bournemouth, by comparison, sit in fifth place with a return of five wins in eight and have notched up back to back wins recently.

Clearly, the fans are downbeat at the moment as our Achilles heel from last season just hasn’t disappeared and frustration is rising, but I wasn’t expecting this reaction. It’s slightly cheered me up actually.

In the build-up to the game, the clubs’ social media team Tweeted out a simple competition.

Some were optimistic.

The eagled eyed will notice they aren’t all Southampton fans but clearly fancy a chance of winning the shirt. The eagled eyed will again notice neither are all of those predicting a loss, so I can only presume fans of other clubs really like our away strip.

Can that be considered a success with a quarter of the season now effectively gone?
