Last night it was being reported that Southampton were in talks with Real Sociedad over a deal for Juanmi, but the club are reticent to let him go.

The 22 year old midfielder joined us over the summer in a £5million move from Malaga, but has found playing time difficult and only has two starts in the League Cup, but 15 substitute appearances in the Premier League and our mini European adventure at the start of the year.

His last outing was at the beginning of the month in the two one loss to Crystal Palace.

With Ronald Koeman talking about his need to adjust to life and referee’s in this country, it sounds like negotiations may be taking place over a potential loan move to get him game time and confidence again, rather than a permanent move.

Reports in Spain have the player quoted as saying.

‘It’s a good choice for me (Real Sociedad). All the players we like to play and I am not having too many opportunities. I know the clubs are already talking and I would like them to reach an agreement. But I cannot say much more.’

His agent, Manolo Garcia Quilon, is also quoted as saying.

‘We are in negotiations, but for now Southampton don’t want to let him go. We are still on it. For now the issue is complicated, but we will keep trying.’
