Midfielder James Ward-Prowse has said that he feels Southampton need a little bit of luck at the moment with results consistently going again us of late.

With a single victory over Arsenal on Boxing Day and a draw against Aston Villa in the month of December, they have been the only points picked up during the last night games and things didn’t get much better against Norwich City in the opening game of 2016 with the one nil loss at Carrow Road.

Speaking to saintsfc in his own post game interviews, Ward-Prowse said that with a bit more luck in front of goal Southampton would’ve been clear prior to Victor Wanyama going off with a red card.

‘It was tough and disappointing on our part. I think it was the ideal opportunity to put right the result we had against West Ham. We`re very disappointed in there that we couldn`t turn it around. We had a few chances in the first half and I think we performed well. It was a case of getting that little bit of luck with one of the key moments in the game. We haven`t had the rub of the green, but hopefully that will come.’

With the hosts scoring moments after Wanyama was sent from the field, JWP admitted that unfortunately the players had taken too long to regroup from the blow.

‘Victor is an aggressive player and he likes to get around the pitch. It was unfortunate for him that he got sent off. It`s always difficult, but we coped well after the goal. It was just one of those moments and to be fair, the guy took the goal very well. It was a real test of character out there and we can learn a lot from that. We have to learn from it – it`s a new year and a new start, but it wasn`t the ideal start. It`s a test of character to come through the bad times.’
