Southampton striker Kenwyne Jones made his first start in this summer’s World Cup in Germany. He started on the right hand side of midfield for Leo Beenhakker’s side and seemed to cause problems for England full back Ashley Cole.

His powerful running and eagerness to get forward and support lone striker Stern John and his aerial prowess caused England’s defence some problems.

Jones was replaced in the second half by striker Cornell Glen but will have been pleased with his contribution.

England finally laboured to a 2-0 win with goals from Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard.

In other World Cup news Southampton striker Gregorz Rasiak’s World Cup is now over after surprise package Ecuador, who have ex saint Agustin Delgado in their ranks, beat Costa Rica 3-0.
