Manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that if all goes to plan Gaston Ramirez will leave St Mary’s Stadium this month.

The 25 year old Uruguayan moved to us from Bologna back in the summer of 2012 for £12million but in his years with us since has only managed 28 starts and a further 27 from the bench. Eight goals were returned in that time though.

In the 2014-15 season he spent time out with Hull City, making eleven starts and eleven substitute appearances with the return of one goal, but it has long been known that with his contract coming to an end the club were looking to move him on, as he wasn’t Koeman’s type of player – despite his praise for his attitude and efforts in training.

So far this campaign he’s totted up only 28 Premier League minutes with substitute appearances in matches against Liverpool, West Ham and Norwich but he did have Capital One Cup matches against MK Dons and Aston Villa.

Building on his earlier words, Koeman is quoted more recently as saying that whilst there is no intention of letting anybody leave this January window, Ramirez is a different case.

‘The situation with Gaston is different to our other players because he is ending his contract. He is not in the plans for the future of the club.’
