Manager Ronald Koeman has said he was pleased with the performance of the players in the two all draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

Audio – Koeman Talks Tottenham Draw

With Southampton taking the lead through two Graziano Pelle strikes, Spurs levelled on both occasions and we remain a point and a place behind our weekend’s opposition with four games remaining.

Speaking to saintsfc following the game, whilst the gaffer thought we had deserved more than a point he knew the players had given their all so he couldn’t be too disappointed.

‘I`m proud of the team. A little bit, in a different way than last week, disappointed. If you go two times in front in the game you expect to win. They punished us for one little mistake with the 2-2 but I`m proud about everyone, all the players. It was a great game of football. The support and the reaction of the fans after the game means a lot to what they saw. We played well, we played on our level and they showed great character.’

Koeman went on to say for the entire 90 minutes he felt we were ‘fighting’ to win the game and take all three points and as a manager that’s the exact type of performance and character he loves to watch.

‘It`s always painful if you get the draw before half-time. It was handball but it was so difficult for the referee to see that. The reaction and the way we played in the second half was very good.’

With Pelle finding the net twice to take him onto 15 goals for the season, he obviously came in for praise from the gaffer.

‘It was a lot of attention in the first goal and the second one was an amazing goal. It was brilliant. A great cross from Shane long, and a fantastic header. That was very nice to watch.’

With the battle for European football still on, he ended his interview by saying that in his mind the top of the table won’t be decided until the very last game.

‘We know that we can match them. You have to show that, the lads showed that level and why we are up in the table. It`s still open until the last game but if we continue like this to play at the level we did we will reach our target.’
