Manager Ronald Koeman has said Southampton need to focus on themselves ahead of this weekend’s clash against Hull City.

With us battling to consolidate our position for European football next season, Hull come into the game battling for the Premier League lives and Koeman told saintsfc that we had to be focused on us this weekend to ensure we get the result we want and draw a line under the Everton defeat.

‘You have to look at yourself and to do your best. You have to have the ambition, spirit and quality. We have a little bit more difficulty in creating enough chances to score and we have to work on that. Now the situation at the moment is that we are fighting for fifth, sixth and seventh position in the table and that`s still very good. We have a home game now and if you want to finish up in the table you have to win games like this.’

Koeman goes on to say that it’s important we continue to believe in ourselves and show the patience necessary to not force things in the game, and then when an opportunity does come along we need that quality and composure to get back to making those chances count.

‘We need to have patience and we need to bring more quality in front. That`s a little bit more difficult than in the beginning. Then it`s all about the performance, but we know and the experience now is that we know how teams will play. We have to handle that in a better way.’

With Steven Davis and Florin Gardos returning to contention for this game, Filip Djuricic remains out for the game. Fraser Forster also returned to Staplewood to begin his recovery as well this week.

‘Steven and Florin are back, they did a normal session without any problems. They will be back for this Saturday. Only Djuričić has a problem and he will be out for the weekend. It`s Fraser`s first step to be back in the team and to have the talks with the rest of the players is positive. If you stay at home you feel out of that. Now he`s back and doing some exercises. Okay, he can`t do a lot and we know he will be a while but he is back to the training centre and back related to the club. That`s positive and gives good energy to the player.’

Looking slightly past this game though, Koeman also went on to say that really we need to be looking to win all three of our remaining St Mary’s ties this season to ensure we end the season strongly.

‘I think the home games, we have to win all of them and maybe win one or two away games. Then for sure you play European football. The target is to win at least the home games. We have looked comfortable at home in the last two games. We know the system that Hull is using normally. It`s most of the time five defenders and there is not a lot of space. Then you have to do good movements in the right moments. I think maybe we need to be a little bit more aggressive in the box and a little bit more clinical than in the last few games. It`s a tough one because they are fighting against relegation, they need points. They didn`t have a bad game against Swansea City – I watched it.’
