Manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that he has opened up contract talks with the club but his future won’t be decided until the summer.

The gaffer also said that he felt Sadio Mane was trying too hard and attempting to force things in his own performance in the FA Cup loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The Mirror have him quoted as saying about his potential new deal.

‘It is true that the club and I are having talks about the future. I have a terrific relationship with everyone at the club. We are constantly in contact and we talk about the ambitions of Southampton and about budgets for the future. But I don`t see the need to take a decision at the moment. My contract runs on for another year anyway.’

Hyping matters here is the speculation that Chelsea might be interested in him come the summer.

As for Mane, with a recent hiccup still fresh in people’s minds, Koeman is quoted by Sky Sports as saying he was pleased with the efforts of the player against Crystal Palace as although it didn’t really come off for him, he felt it showed his commitment to the club after recent events and the never ending speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

‘He was active, he was dangerous. Maybe in three or four situations, if he’d passed the ball maybe it would have been a chance, but he’s a good player and that’s not a problem. Maybe, with what happened last week, he was too focused to show his qualities, or to be important, but he played at a good level. He was dangerous, he had good movement. And it’s difficult, because the organisation of Crystal Palace was good, and puts a lot of people behind, and it’s not easy to score against them.’
