After David Connolly had scored in extra time to give Saints the lead against a dour Shrewsbury, Adam Lallana scored in the 94th minute to seal victory.

Talking to Saints Player he said, ‘It was one of those where you don’t really get much time to think, but I think sometimes it’s better when that happens, because you don’t have time to dwell on it and luckily it went in.’

Personally I don’t think it is so much luck as skill that enabled him to produce the curled shot into the back of the net with the keeper well beaten.

Adam added that when the 4th official put the 3 minutes sign up for the extra time he was thinking that a replay could be on the cards.

The team kept going and scored two goals which in itself is a lesson that the game doesn’t end until the final whistle has blown.

He admitted that Shrewsbury put up a really good fist of it and Kelvin had to make a couple of good saves. Chances were made by our team but we still aren’t putting enough of them away though that side of our game is improving.

The best thing though is the fact that Adam is nearing peak fitness and with him fully fit we should now be more than able to add to our goal tally as we continue to improve as a unit.
