Skipper Adam Lallana has admitted he has no idea how Southampton came out of last night’s game with nothing to show for it.

Speaking to saintsfc following the three two loss, Lallana admitted their was a sense of disbelief in the dressing room after the game because the very least we deserved from our showing on the night would’ve been a draw, and even then really there would’ve still questions over how we didn’t take the victory owing to the chances we created.

‘The start of the game was brilliant. We were having chances and I thought it was only a matter of time before we’d get the first goal. They caught us on the counter and we came in one nil down.’

Lallana was again pleased with how we started the second 45 as we got ourselves back on level terms and again looked the side most likely to go on and secure victory, but they suckered us again, and we then again got ourselves back level and looked likely to win it, before they hit us for the third time.

‘It’s such a strange feeling now, it’s just one of those games. I can’t wait to go back and play Villa because I thought they didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game and we deserved a result. I want to go there later on in the season and get all three points.’

Clearly the result has rankled with the player, but confidence certainly doesn’t seem to have taken a hit given our recent run of form, if Lallana’s words are anything to go off there seems a real determined spirit to put this game right next time out, but that will no doubt also transmit to other games and a good solid performance and result this weekend would certainly give everyone a lift again, as we have to end this run of defeats one way or another.

Some will no doubt say we won’t have a better chance to have done that than last night, but games like that do happen but thankfully not too often.
