Southampton began the game against Wigan keen to show how much the team has improved since losing at home to them early in the season.

Coming back to take the lead after Wigan had scored first showed that as did the way Saints dictated the play for long periods of the game.

When Morgan Schneiderlin scored on 85 minutes it seemed that the points were theirs but again shoddy defending allowed an opponent to steal points at the end of a game.

Speaking afterwards Rickie Lambert said, ‘I’m frustrated about conceding in the last minute, it was a very bad goal to give away.’

‘Obviously when the dust settles and you have time to think about it then we’re going to think of it being a good point. But right now it doesn’t feel like that, it’s a bitter pill to swallow. We should have had three points.’

The frustration was clear to see and fully understandable. As he says later we shall have to do more work on the training ground.
