Striker Rickie Lambert has said that everybody in the dressing room was delighted to have equalled our record points tally in the top flight with the 2-0 win over Everton last weekend.

Speaking to saintsfc following the game, Lambert said this crop of players deserved to write themselves into a bit more history, and one more point from our remaining two games would now do that.

‘We have been desperate to get onto 52 points and that probably was our biggest ambition because I think it’s one hell of an achievement that we’ve matched it. We’ve got two games now to try and beat that and that’s the desire that we need.’

Lambert goes on to say that the win over Champions League chasing Everton does show the quality and the desire of the team to end the season on a high and continue to show development and improvement, and if we can finish having taken that record and on a high, then hopefully it should set us up nicely to try and push on a bit more next season.
