Rickie Lambert has said we ground out an important result for us against Aston Villa, even if it wasn’t the prettiest of games.
Speaking to saintsfc following our win today, Rickie was pleased with the day’s return.
‘We’re grinding out results. It might not have been one of our best performances today, but it was an important result. I was happy to see my penalty hit the back of the net, and for it to be the winning goal is even better. I thought we played very well in the first half and it was only a matter of time until we were going to score, whether that penalty went in or not. We came out thinking we were going to push for a second, but we were disappointed with our second half performance.’
Lambert adds, like Adkins did, that fair play to Villa for getting themselves back in the game performance wise and putting us under pressure, but Lambert was pleased with the way we coped during that time, keeping the cleansheet, even if we did have to dig in.
