Rickie Lambert has said he is determined to end his best season yet by clinching promotion to the Premier League.

It’s been quite a debut season in the Championship for the player as he’s landed the Player of the Year title, been named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year alongside Adam Lallana and Kelvin Davis, and he’s also on target to finish as the league’s leading goalscorer.

Lambert was pretty upfront about the reason for his success this season when talking to saintsfc as he put it down to his fitness levels and how hard the squad have worked as a whole.

‘I’ve never felt fitter in my career. The foundations were laid in pre season and from my own point of view I’ve benefited from extra yoga and stretching exercises and specialised muscle toning. Quite honestly it’s worked wonders. Because I feel fitter, I’ve become better as a player.’

It’s not just all about Rickie though, clinching promotion would be the icing on the cake now that the title challenge is unfortunately over.

‘If anyone at the start of the season had offered us a home win in our last game to guarantee promotion, we would have bitten their hand off. We won’t underestimate Coventry but we’ll be determined to finish the job. We owe it to ourselves and to the fans to go out an do what’s necessary.’
