New signing, former Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina has now held his first Southampton press conference following his arrival yesterday.

Having signed a five year deal at St Mary’s following his switch from the Serie A Champions, Lemina told saintsfc that he was delighted to have made the switch to the club and he was relishing the challenge that would be England and the Premier League.

‘I am really happy to have signed for Southampton. I think that it was the project that attracted me the most and the one my family was really behind. Therefore, I`m really happy to be here. As I`ve already said, it was a club that really interested me from the start. I`ve also been aware of their journey in the Europa League and their style of play with plenty of ball possession. So, I`m really happy to have chosen this project.’

In a wider interview, he also went on to say that with his interest in the English game he was hoping that he could quickly acclimatise to our game and get himself settled in so he could have an impact.

‘I am really excited. I have a lot of friends from France who are here and they have explained to me what it`s like to play in the Premier League. I am really excited to be playing in stadiums in the Premier League this season. It is a different league and I hope that I adapt quickly to it because I know that it is a league where everything goes quickly. I know that the team will help me lots to get used to it.’

Having heard plenty of positives about the division and Southampton, he admitted rising to that challenge was certainly a driver behind his move.

‘The aims this year are the same as they were last season. We want to finish high up the table whether that be sixth, seventh or eight place and why not challenge for the Europa League. I`ve seen that the club is very ambitious and we want to stay on this upward path.’
