An emphatic 4-0 win saw Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side progress to the fourth round of the League Cup as well as see Southampton claim the bragging rights on the south coast for the foreseeable future.
A brace from Danny Ings and goals from Cedric and Nathan Redmond saw Southampton put Portsmouth to the sword in what is likely to go down as a famous win for the Saints.
And as expected, plenty of supporters on social media were ecstatic after the full-time whistle blew at Fratton Park.
Here is what some Southampton fans had to say on Twitter…

Southampton next face off against Tottenham in the Premier League, who they themselves were on the losing side of a giant-killing as the north London were eliminated by Colchester United.
