Some Southampton fans have been pleading for the club to sign Genk defender Joakim Maehle.
This comes after the 22-year-old told Ekstra Bladet previously that a £31.5m bid for him was turned down, and believes that he will play for the Saints one day having been the only team to make their interest concrete. The report adds that Crystal Palace were also interested but it was not brought to Maehle’s attention.

The Denmark U21 international has been an important part of the Jupiler League outfit, with 23 starts this season and helped his side win the title last season which helped them into the Champions League for the 2019/20 campaign.
With this in mind, supporters were keen to see Maehle make the switch to St Mary’s and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that the player himself is “literally on his knees and so are we”.
