Yesterday evening Liverpool formally apologised over the recent media speculation linking them with a summer move for centre half Virgil van Dijk.

I won’t go over the history here again, it was covered previously and it’s has been widely covered in all of the media.

The statement from Liverpool was published on their official website.

‘Liverpool Football Club would like to put on record our regret over recent media speculation regarding Southampton Football Club and player transfers between the two clubs. We apologise to the owner, board of directors and fans of Southampton for any misunderstanding regarding Virgil van Dijk.’

The statement ended by saying.

‘We respect Southampton’s position and can confirm we have ended any interest in the player.’

So one thing is for sure now, the van Dijk speculation won’t be going away any time soon.
