Maintaining recent resurgence has the potential to turn Southampton’s season around – Opinion

|

After fighting back against Watford on Saturday to secure a massive 2-1 win, Southampton supporters will be hoping that the squad can continue riding the high for tonight’s game.

Norwich City make the trip down south in a relegation clash that could have drastic ramifications for the race for survival, and for Southampton, three points against the Canaries could mean finally escaping the drop zone.

After a poor start to the season, recent results have been encouraging for the Saints, with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side picking up four points from their previous two games and the first-team players looking confident on the pitch after months of looking confused and hopeless.

Will Southampton's season kick-off from here?

Absolutely

No way, we need major improvements

Yet since the Saints’ 2-2 draw against Arsenal, in which the Gunners needed a 96th minute equaliser from Alexandre Lacazette to ensure the points were shared, Southampton’s performances on the pitch have been impressive, with the squad playing with a much better tempo as well as ambition that has been unseen from a Hasenhuttl side in some time.

It might seem like an added cliché to claim that a win tonight against Norwich will turn Southampton’s season around, but the hard truth is that it has the potential to do just that.

The two sides come into tonight’s relegation six-pointer in similar form, with Southampton and Norwich both winning one, drawing one and losing three of their last five Premier League match, and there is a sense that this evening will prove to be a fixture that will change the scenery of the bottom three in the English top-flight for the rest of the season.

The Saints have shown plenty of fight in the past few games in the Premier League, and tonight, they need to maintain their recent resurgence to claim what could three of the most important points on offer this season.
