With plenty of uproar surrounding Sadio Mane’s late appearance to a team meeting and plenty covered in the media on that score that I won’t rehash, speaking to saintsfc in his pre Crystal Palace FA Cup press conference, the gaffer was obviously tasked with questions about the player, and he said the issue had been dealt with and put behind everybody and he had been pleased with the players efforts in training.

With plenty of transfer speculation about Mane to Manchester United and others, Koeman also said that when they spoke Mane had insisted he was happy at the club and intended to stay.

‘What I saw this week from Sadio is a good reaction, and you hope for a good reaction, because he is an important player, he can make a difference in the team, he can score goals. He is a player who is very unpredictable for a lot of opponents, and a good Sadio ManĂ© gives the team more chances to win the game. Ok, he’s still young, he makes his excuse that he did a big mistake. There’s no difference in the situation of Sadio. A lot of media people think he is trying to go out of Southampton, but he mentioned to the club he is still happy in Southampton and he will continue and it’s no reason to change, and that’s maybe a clear message to everybody outside of the club.’

Having been dropped from the Norwich game following the incident, unfortunately his second since arriving at the club, Koeman went on to confirm that he was available for selection this weekend and definitely came back into his plans for the third round match against Palace.

‘Yes, he’s a player like everybody who gets a chance and you know he’s an important player, and important players normally you put them in the starting line-up.’
