He told the ‘Saints Player’, ‘I’m very pleased with the performance from all of the players, the starting eleven and tthe subs that came on. The way that they all conducted themselves tonight was very positive and very pleasing.’

He went on to say how he had stressed the importance of keeping a clean sheet. he added that there were some things that they had worked on that morning in training that we saw during the game.

This aspect pleased him greatly as it showed that these things were being taken on board by the youngsters as the develop.

Taliking about the pre-season he stressed the importance of playing teams such as Havant, Basingstoke and Eastleigh. In the development of the players these games are very important he said. They provide both a mental and a physical test for the youngsters.

Talking about the Captain, Aaron Martin, Martin Hunter said it had been important for young Martin to return to his former club. He thought the youngster captained the team very well and was a tower off strength in the heart of our defence.

While stressing how pleased he was with the whole performance tonight, Hunter did say he has to keep the youngsters feet firmly on the groumnd.

Alan Pardew was there watching and he had a word after the game as well with the team. I imagine he would also have been pleased to see how the youngsters performed.
