Match Stats: Everton v Southampton

Southampton’s battle to avoid the drop in the season of 2017/18 saw us take another step in that direction with a score draw against Everton in this evening’s Premier League kick off.

Heading to Goodison Park for the tie, Southampton largely bossed the game and took a 1-0 lead through Nathan Redmond as he scored his first goal of the campaign. With the game looking set to return all three points, Everton hit back six minutes into stoppage time through Tom Davies to take a point. Maya Yoshida had been sent off for two bookable offences late on.

With manager Mark Hughes quizzing the referee Jonathan Moss about the amount of stoppage time when he finally blew the whistle, the point is enough to take us out of the bottom three and we are now perched on 33 points (a better goal difference) with Swansea City.

We face Swansea next, of course, and that result will go a long way to dictating the drop with us still to face Manchester City in the final game. Victory would’ve been better for our cause, but it’s in our hands now and we’d have all taken that.
