Matt Targett was sent out on loan in late January to Fulham who are fighting for promotion to the Premier League this season.

With only two appearances for Southampton in 2017/18, his arrival at Craven Cottage has seen an upturn in performances and results as they remain unbeaten since he joined them. He has now made 14 starts, one substitute appearance and he scored his first goal in their 1-1 draw with Bolton on February 10.

Matt has also had rave reviews from various sources with regard to his individual showings.

He has freed Ryan Sessegnon from his left back position and allowed the talented youngster the opportunity to terrorise opponent defences. Sessegnon was the big winner at EFL Awards on Sunday, picking up five trophies and Targett should be pleased with the role he’s played in helping him achieve that.

Together they have quickly built up a tremendous understanding and they have been simply superb. So good that Fulham fans are hoping that Matt will stay longer than his loan period.

Myself, I am pleased for Matt as I have known that he has the talent for a long time. In fact we thought that he was on a par with Luke Shaw before he was sold. My hope now is that he can return to us next season, and stake his claim for our left back position.

He is the type of player that gives his all in every game and I truly believe he could be a good player for us.
