It still seems unlikely that Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie will return to St Mary’s Stadium ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, but it’s been claimed recently that there is no buy clause included in the deal with Feyenoord.

At the time of his departure last summer, fans were largely sad to see him go as following his spell out on loan last season with Club Brugge, many hoped he would return fresh and build on the flashes that we had seen from him, but it wasn’t a great spell. It wasn’t to be though and although there was no talk of a permanent clause built into his deal with the Dutch side, the expectation was we probably wouldn’t see him again.

Outlet Voetbal Primeur has confirmed this week that no buy deal was negotiated in the loan, but it’s a throw away comment in a piece discussing his time in Brugge.

With him making 25 appearances for them so far, it feels like slow media rumblings from an agent potentially trying to ease a deal through, or at the very least to try and attract greater interest in him come the summer.

Who knows at this stage if he’ll get a second lease of life under Ralph Hasenhuttl but it could be a busy summer.
