Talking after the game on Saints Player he said, “We have come here with a game plan because Chelsea are a good side and if you give them space then they are going to hurt you,”

Chelsea scored half way through the first half and dealt what could have been a killer blow on the stroke of half time.

Nigel continued by explaining, “That could have been a real sucker blow – as it was in the FA Cup when they scored against us right before half time – but the players showed great character to come out in the second half and stick to the game plan.’

The team persisted with the plan and Nigel explained that it had always been the plan to bring on Rickie Lambert with around 30 minutes to go.

Nigel explained, “We came with a game plan and that was to utilize the pace of Jay Rodriguez on the counter-attack and look to the impact of Rickie coming off the bench.

The plan worked a treat and the mood in the camp must have been given a huge lift with the second half manner that the players went about their business.

After praising Rickie and Jason for their valued strikes Nigel took time to heap praise on 17yo Luke Shaw. This lad is going to be some player.

All in all a great night for the club and the fans.
