With Liverpool apologising and withdrawing their interest in centre half Virgil van Dijk, it’s now being reported that Manchester City have shelved their interest in the player.

The Liverpool history is well known here but the Mirror were reporting over the weekend that sources within the Manchester City camp have also now distanced themselves from the player owing to the valuation of the Dutchman going beyond the £50million mark.

The unquoted sources claim their interest ended once Southampton hiked the price on the centre back’s head and it’s said that Liverpool were the only ones prepared to pay around £60million for his services.

With the Mirror also claiming that Southampton have now further hiked that sum to around the £70million mark with an insistence that any move can only go ahead for that kind of sum, it remains to be seen if City, Liverpool or Chelsea as the often linked clubs to him tempt their luck nearer the end of the transfer window.

  • Van Dijk must just be bold enough to request a transfer . Southampton may own the player but he has a right to declare which club he admires during the transfer window . This tendency to muzzle players is not right .
