Manager Mauricio Pellegrino has said that he has no fresh injury concerns after Ryan Bertrand recovered from the knock he received on opening day.

The England full back had to be substituted in the closing stages of the scoreless draw with Swansea City last weekend, but he’s already been passed fit for the weekend’s tie against West Ham at St Mary’s and Pellegrino confirmed that goalkeeper Alex McCarthy had now been passed fit having overcome his pre season injury.

Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media earlier today for his pre game press conference, Pellegrino explained.

‘Ryan was training good, I think physically he is fit. Everybody is ok, even Alex McCarthy. He has been playing Monday night in the U23 game. It`s good news for us, because everybody is ready for this game.’

Presumably we will still be without want-a-way centre half Virgil van Dijk as there seems to have been nothing fresh on that score following chairman Ralf Krueger’s comments to the media yesterday.

Sky Sports actually have him addressing the Van Dijk issue, and Pellegrino confirms the situation is unchanged.

“Nothing has changed – it is the same as last week. For that reason, I have nothing to say, he won’t be available to play.”
