Southampton striker Shane Long is beginning to have another one of those seasons when it comes to his goals to game ratio.

The £12million former West Bromwich Albion man does split fans and he’s tended to do so at every club he’s been at as his goalscoring record isn’t the greatest for a striker, but few can argue with his overall work rate and work ethic as he certainly puts the hard yards and the effort in.

With a focus on a lack of goals at Southampton, Long has six appearances to his name so far in the season of 2018/19 but he’s yet to open his account for the year and with the October international break in full swing, the 31-year-old would’ve hoped to have got off the mark for his country when they faced Denmark the other day, but in a poor performance that saw the Republic of Ireland only get one shot on target from three efforts, it appears Long may have become the easy scapegoat for his countries fans.

With only two goals last season from 41 showings he really does need to get himself going again in front of the net as frustration will continue to rise, unfortunately, and the good work he does elsewhere will be constantly overshadowed by the lack of goals.
