Sky Sports are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has moved away from returning to St Mary’s in the hopes of landing midfielder Victor Wanyama.

With plenty of speculation about a move for the 24 year old last summer, and increasing speculation about a return for Spurs – who are believed to have bid last window – for the player, Sky sources are now confident that Pochettino isn’t going to try and do a deal in the remainder of this month’s window.

Especially as they say Southampton would only be tempted into selling the player if ‘a stupid offer’ came in for his services that we would be daft to turn down.

With manager Ronald Koeman making it clear he wanted to build a squad properly and not keep re-building one every summer, the line from Southampton this month has been very much about not selling anybody and with loose contract talks beginning with the gaffer, if that comes to pass this month then it will only improve the position of the club in terms of the backing given to him and their ambitions to not have an annual exodus of players we’d rather keep.
